1891 Queen Victoria Farthing – Superb Lustrous Bronze – Attractive Cabinet Toning

This listing is for a genuine 1891 Bronze Farthing of Queen Victoria, struck at the Royal Mint, London. A beautifully preserved example from the later bun head series, this coin retains exceptional mint lustre and a subtle, golden-brown cabinet tone that enhances its originality and depth.

The surfaces exhibit a lovely blend of soft bronze glow and rich patination, particularly around Britannia and the portrait — typical of coins stored in long-term collections. Crisp detailing remains visible throughout, from Britannia’s trident and shield to Victoria’s laurel wreath, confirming minimal handling and careful preservation.

Historical Context

By 1891, Britain was at the height of its imperial influence, and the bronze coinage of the Victorian era had become a symbol of stability and trust in commerce. The farthing, worth one-quarter of a penny, circulated widely among the working classes and remained in use until the mid-20th century. The 1891 issue is among the more visually appealing of the later bun head series, often displaying superior strike and metal quality compared to earlier issues.

This piece exemplifies the fine craftsmanship of the Royal Mint in the late 19th century — practical, elegant, and enduring.
