1900 Queen Victoria Sixpence – Old Head – Sterling Silver – Last Year of Issue

This listing is for a genuine 1900 Silver Sixpence of Queen Victoria, struck in sterling silver (.925) at the Royal Mint, London. The coin features the mature “Old Head” portrait of Victoria by Sir Thomas Brock and the classic crowned denomination reverse designed by Leonard Charles Wyon.

The 1900 Sixpence marks the final year of Queen Victoria’s long reign, bringing to a close over six decades of British coinage under her rule. It stands as the last of the Old Head issues before the transition to Edward VII, and is highly sought after as the concluding piece of the Victorian silver series.

Historical Context

Introduced in 1893, the “Old Head” or “Veiled Head” design replaced the Jubilee portrait, presenting a more dignified and realistic image of the ageing Queen. The reverse retained the traditional crowned wreath motif that had graced the sixpence since the early 19th century. The 1900 issue holds particular historical importance as the final circulating sixpence struck during Victoria’s lifetime and the last before the new Edwardian coinage of 1902.
