1902 Edward VII One Third Farthing – Superb Lustrous Bronze – Exceptional Mint State Example
This listing is for a genuine 1902 Bronze One Third Farthing of King Edward VII, struck at the Royal Mint, London. A beautifully preserved example of this fascinating small-denomination issue, originally produced for use in Malta but part of the standard British coinage series.
This outstanding specimen exhibits full original mint lustre with brilliant golden and coppery iridescence under light. Surfaces are exceptionally clean, showing razor-sharp detail to both the King’s portrait and the oak wreath reverse. A premium example with classic cabinet brilliance and exceptional eye appeal.
Historical Context
The One Third Farthing was among the smallest denominations of British coinage, first introduced under George IV in 1827. Although primarily used in Malta, it remained a British Imperial issue struck to the same standards as domestic bronze coinage.
The 1902 issue represents the first year of Edward VII’s reign, minted to mark the new monarch’s accession. Most examples circulated heavily or were lost to time due to their minute size — making fully lustrous survivors such as this highly desirable to serious collectors of British bronze.
